The product of a years-long collaboration with Chen Chen and Kai Williams, the Sidewinder is an enigmatic kinetic sculpture moonlighting as a knife.

Named for the oscillating tracks left in the sand by its serpentine namesake, motion is at the core of the Sidewinder Knife’s design philosophy. Rather than a fixed handle, it has an interlocking mechanical hilt, with two opposing elements moving in sympathy with the blade itself to produce a truly unique unsheathing mechanism.

Formed entirely of stone washed and black PVD-coated stainless steel, the Sidewinder boasts a heft that feels authoritative in the hand, but never unwieldy. It’s perfectly pocketable, but remains equally content to be displayed on a desk, a shelf, or a mantle, proudly soaking in the wonder and admiration its curious form will undoubtedly attract.

My sharpest fidget toy

I'm not sure this succeeds as a functional, daily-use object (it's near impossible to open and close with one-hand in a way that's not awkward, for example)—but as a desk object/fidget toy/glorified box-opener, it's a beautiful work of art.

One bummer: The PVD coating on my knife was poorly applied in two spots on the frame and is a literally rubbed off to the touch without any use, literally right after I opened it. A bit disappointing from a quality control perspective for a knife of this price.

Sidewinder knife review

Cool action but I bought it as a gift for someone so not mine to mess with.
