Piecemakers Community Favorite

The community has spoken, and at the close of voting, Jason Liu’s ‘Paradoxloid Fusion’ design has been crowned Community Favorite! Please join us in giving a big round of applause to our Community Favorite winner Jason Liu! There’s nothing paradoxical about the appeal of his perplexing puzzle design.

We’d also like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to all Piecemakers and puzzlers who submitted, voted, and showed their passion and support for the puzzle community. That passion is a big component of why we do what we do, and it’s beyond gratifying to see it in action. Once again, we thank you all.

Puzzlingly yours,
Team Craighill

From Jason:

"Paradoxloid is a paradoxical Oloid.

What is an oloid? An oloid is a fascinating geometric shape that has incredible mathematical and aesthetic properties. It is the only three-dimensional shape that when rolled in a complete 360° roll, every single point on the entire shape touches the table surface. I felt that the shape was a beautifully elegant phenomenon that aligns with the beauty of Craighill puzzles. If possibly made in a cast steel form, the Paradoxloid could be a simple yet elegant brain teaser puzzle.

Created with a sweep cut, the inner peace gracefully rotates 360° from one end to the other inside the Paradoxloid. If the inner piece can be cast in a golden aluminum or other contrasting, colored steel, the two interlocking pieces create an abstract outer design on the Paradoxloid. Apart, the two pieces can sit beautifully on a table but together they form a soothing, handheld object that can be rolled between the palm and fore fingers. Aligned with the Craighill design goal, the Paradoxloid is perfect for rolling on your table back-and-forth during a boring zoom call.

I loved this challenge because I enjoy thinking through interlocking 3-D shapes."
